Now that LCD displays provide more light than the Sun in most parts of the Northern hemisphere, and despite an incredible ‘Indian Summer’ – for those who are not victims of intense rain and flooding – it is time to give a bit of news from TALER.
It is notable that through NGI TALER Open Calls, a third party Swiss company, Thimoo, implemented GNU Taler in the Be-BOP e-commerce software, leading to the first fully independent and working implementation of Taler payment in CHF, that was demonstrated during the Geneva Book Fair in March 2026, and has improved since, integrating the mainline of the bespoke sales and cashier software (products, memberships, donations, events, point of sale, and more…).
We took the opportunity of the Summer break, where online activity substantially decreases – although sign-ups on the forum increased, to make contact with interested entities beyond the Euro zone, especially in the Balkans and North Africa, where potential for micro-payments are soaring. After a presentation at BalCCon, the annual Balkan computer security conference, we were approached by developers and lawyers working in banks in Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia.
We’re looking forward to joining the NGI Local for Local closing gathering next month in Brussels, and introduce Taler payments to the complementary currencies European network. GNU Taler has received additional funding from NGI L4L to implement payment processing for the City Pass in Kampen (NL).
