The project starting an integration of Taler in Odoo has been submitted to NLNet for funding, I should receive feedback in about 7 weeks!
Congratulations @Nemael! TOPS made it to the first open call.
Incredible! I’m waiting on a call to make a Memorandum of Understanding, and after that the project will start concretely!
I’m looking forward to this development
This is pretty cool.
Is there a plan to also include basic cash exchange functionality similar or compatible with the Taler Cashier app?
Since Odoo has a pretty good PoS integration, it could become a good option to bootstrap a cashless payment solution for a music festival or so, with Taler only used as local tokens and no real bank integration necessary.
There is no plan for that feature within the original proposal.
Implementing Taler’s cash exchange features would be great, and it would fit Odoo’s software seamlessly.
I don’t think Odoo is the best software for the use-case you are proposing, but it’d be nice to have the option available anyway!
I will definitely include this feature in a potential future proposal for the software!
Edit: Now that I think more about it, I believe this feature would greatly empower in-person communities who would like to learn and use Taler, and I would like to reaffirm that I want to push on this feature in a potential future development of the add-on (it is hard to project as the add-on doesn’t exist yet, but I’ll keep that in mind )
Hi @Nemael
I’m an Odoo OSS developer and interested in the Taler project.
With the recent attack on the us payment infrastructure, I became aware how vulnerable our payment infrastructure is. As I understand the Taler project is addressing these issues e.g. privacy, security.
What is the current state of your integration? I am curious of how Taler works and testing it with Odoo would be the perfect match in my case.
Do you have a board where you share your progress on the project?
The ForgeFed (also NLNet funded) does a good job at visiblity: https://forgefed.org/
Hello @janikvonrotz
The Taler project is indeed a great protection for privacy, security from bad agents, and I find auditability to also be a strong feature to strengthen the payment infrastructure.
My integration’s current state has not made much progress yet. I am in the process of making a prototype, unusable currently, but I plan on working on it further before making a first commit on its public repository https://codeberg.org/Nemael/tops. I don’t have more available information in the form of a board or other.
I would love to know more about your testing case, what is the context you would like to try this add-on in?
The ForgeFed federated tool is a very interesting and strong tool. The project is currently constrained into Codeberg, but I would love to push for a bridge towards ForgeFed, and finally make a step forward to get the infrastructure to have my own instances. The federated website hosting from a repository looks very interesting to me.
As a side note, I found and went through your blog, and I enjoyed many articles, I definitely bookmarked some of the techy articles
Has there been any progress on this? The Codeberg repo sadly hasn’t seen any updates either.
